Stoumbaugh's Speed and Custom is a family owned and run business in Wylie, Texas. Wylie is a fast-growing community just a few miles northeast of Dallas in Collin County. SSC, as it is also referred to, is owned by Brent and Silvia Stoumbaugh. They are a perfect husband-and-wife fit for this type of business. Between the two of them there is a background of education and years of work experience in parts, management, and accounting, as well as some legal expertise. Hard work is something they have never shied away from!

You will also find Brent's mother, Liz Gunderson, working in the store from time to time and on the Web site pages. Hold it! Wait a minute; before we go any further, fair warning must be given here in that "Mom" is writing the content for this page!

Stoumbaugh's Speed and Custom - About Us

The story is not much different or any more exciting than anyone else's. Brent and his brother Jim were born in Denver, Colorado, and raised in the mountains above Boulder, Colorado. At about 7,500 feet above Boulder, the snow starts early and ends late. As you can see in the picture on the left that didn't stop the boys from riding their bikes.

Brent used to wear my boots to ride his bike so he could tuck in his pants to keep warm and dry. By the way, this was the boys' second bike and they weren't out of elementary school yet. Jim is 22 months younger than Brent, but when the motor bikes started arriving for Christmas, they both got one!

By this time their Dad had his '67 Nova and was drag racing at Bandimere Speedway every Saturday during race season. Brent would usually go every Saturday with Dad. Brent's uncle and his cousin also had cars and they would usually pit together.

Luckily the brothers have always been tight friends, except for the normal occasional wrestling match when they were very young. They always had someone to ride bikes with!

Stoumbaugh's Speed and Custom - About Us

Brent first became acquainted with Texas when we moved from Boulder to the Lancaster area for business in the fall of 1979. We lived to the country on 10 acres with enough room for the kids' bikes, mom's horses, and dad's drag race car. New motorcycles arrived during Christmas of 1980 (or 1981). When Brent turned 14 that spring he was able to get a motorcycle license. He worked for a neighbor during hay season so he was able to ride his bike during daylight hours.

We moved back to our home in the mountains of Boulder in the summer of 1982. It was pretty uneventful there, except when the boys decided to ride their motorcycles around our road. It was a dirt road that wound around the top of the mountain in a complete circle of almost a mile. We got more than a few complaints about the noise from our neighbors.

It wasn't long until Brent was old enough to drive, then we had cars thrown into the mix and we were off to the races.

The picture on the left was taken last year at Redline. The '67 Nova had been repainted and most of the rest of it completely rebuilt.

I've always figured that Brent got his love of cars and drag racing from his dad. The motorcycle thing has just always been there. The only thing I can figure is that Brent and Jim were born with a steering wheel in one hand and motorcycle handlebars in the other. They like to figure out how everything works and have a bit of an artistic flare. They've got the bug and they've got it bad!

Let's just say that Silvia knew what she was getting into when she married Brent. When their wedding invitations were printed, the cartoon to the right was printed on the inside left page of the announcements.

Silvia is quite the horsewoman so she is very well aware of the virtues of patience and working hard to achieve results.

The idea of having a motorcycle parts store has been racing around in Brent's head for a long time. Together they decided to quit thinking about it and JUST DO IT! It really is true that nothing worth having is easy. But if you don't do it, you will never know if you could have had it!
